French Burqa Ban Issue and Global Justice

Officials rule France burqa ban legal
http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/07/officials-france-burqa-ban-legal-law-goes-into-effect-immediately/?hpt=T2

Women should not be forced to wear burqa due to their Islamic culture and women's gender role not because it is justified that Islamic culture can force them to do so, but because they have rights as an individual, not a person in a group, to wear what they wear.

However, western clothes are also based on western culture, so they are not culturally neutral. So, people should never be forced to wear western clothes either and the government should not ban a particular style of clothes.

Therefore, if the police find the evidence that a Muslim person force his or her sister, daughter or wife to wear burqa, then the person should be arrested.

In short, the rights to choose clothes belong to a person, not a group, such as Muslim or French, men or women. Everyone should not force or ban a particular style of clothes.

Education for Poor Families

Yesterday, I went to a conference for those who are interested in education in Japan.

Although it is said that most Japanese people are well educated, it is not always true because a few people are very poor and others have disadvantages in sociological and psychological terms.

I talked with the leader of a non-profit organization that helps children of poor families there. She said that the families could not afford to buy a PC, so they could not use materials on the Internet.

I cannot edit goals on a language learning SNS, called smart.fm or watch lecture movies uploaded by universities in the U.S.. I myself feel the limitation of education without high performance PCs.

What can we do for them? We need to seek new ways to educate people for the common good.

Recognizing Gender Discrimination against Men in Japan

In Japan, a man who had gotten burned on his face and body during his job sued because he had not been recognized handicap level as women in the same situation. The compensation money between the levels are different, so the man was wrongly deprived of money.

Then, the Kyoto District Court decided to order the government to recognize the man because the former decision was gender discrimination against men.

In Japan, gender discrimination not only against women but also against men exists such as gender segregation "lady's only car" policy. However, we should shed light on those issues as discrimination.

Transgender Child in Japan

In Japan, an MTF transgender child is approved as a girl in her school but gender distinction itself is discrimination.

The idea of gender dichotomy still remains. For example, there are 2 kinds of school uniforms, for boys and for girls. In addition, only boys tend to be required to do heavy lifting to help teachers.

Even though she has become happy because of the school's decision, only gender blind policy makes people equal.
